ABUJA, Feb. 18, 2026 (NAN) — Emmanuel Upkong and Susan Marcus stole the spotlight, emerging best net winners in the men’s and ladies’ categories at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja Wednesday’s kitty.
The nine-hole event drew an impressive field of 123 golfers, showcasing skill, resilience, and competitive spirit across all categories.
Upkong, playing off handicap 13, returned a gross score of 42 and an outstanding net score of 29 to clinch the men’s best net prize.
Prince David, off handicap 2, posted 35 gross and 33 net to edge Timothy Mike on countback for the runner-up position.
In the ladies’ category, Susan Marcus, playing off handicap 7, fired a gross 40 and net 33 to claim best net, defeating Juliet Ineh on countback.

“I stayed focused and trusted my swing all through the round,” Marcus said. “Winning today is a big confidence boost for me.


“The competition was intense, but it’s always a pleasure competing with such amazing golfers every Wednesday,” she added.
In the veterans’ category, Gberebic Sonni carded 41 gross and 32 net to triumph over Danladi Gid on countback.
O. Olusegun secured the guest category prize with 49 gross and 36 net in a spirited performance.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Vice Captain of TYB-IGRCC, Dr Ali Peters, congratulated the winners and commended all participants for their sportsmanship and dedication.

“This is what TYB Wednesday kitty represents — friendly competition, consistency, and continuous improvement,” Peters said.
“The turnout today is a testament to the passion our members have for the game. I encourage everyone to keep sharpening their skills as we build an even stronger golfing community.”
Also speaking, the Lady Captain, Jumai Adamu, praised the ladies for their resilience and growing competitiveness.

“I am particularly proud of the ladies’ performance today,” Adamu said. “Week after week, we see remarkable improvement, and that speaks to the commitment and discipline of our players.”
She added, “Our kitty is not just about winning prizes; it is about camaraderie, mentorship, and inspiring one another to be better golfers.”
Golfers now look ahead to another thrilling showdown at next week’s Wednesday kitty. (NAN)
