The Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, of Enugu State, Hon. Aka Eze-Aka, says he would do everything to ensure the security of lives and property in all the communities in the area.
The chairman said this after an expanded strategic security meeting held at the council headquarters, Obollo Afor.
In a decisive move to ensure an all inclusive community-driven intelligence, the chairman has announced a ₦5 million bounty for any individual who provides credible information leading to the arrest of those behind recent kidnappings and related crimes in the area.
He said: “To reclaim our peace and secure our people, every responsible citizen must be involved.
“No criminal has a stake in Udenu; we are determined to flush them out completely.”
According to him, the meeting was convened following the recent spike in security concerns including cases of kidnappings in some communities in parts of Udenu LGA, including Ezimo, Umuosigide, Amalla and Ogwu communities.
The expanded meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations (DC-Ops), Itobore Gregory, who represented the Enugu State Commissioner of Police; the CSO to the Governor of Enugu State; and the Area Commander of Udenu Area Command Orba.
Also in attendance were the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Obollo Afor; and Presidents-General of select town unions in the local government.
At the meeting the representative of the Commissioner of Police delivered a stern address, warning criminal elements to either steer clear of Udenu LGA and Enugu State in general, or face the full wrath of the law.
He assured residents that the state Police Command remained committed and fully mobilised to restore peace in all affected communities.
A dedicated hotline, 08076045030 was unveiled to the public for reporting actionable security intelligence directly to operatives.
After the meeting the council chairman effected a strategic reshuffle in his security advisory structure to enhance operational efficiency.
To this effect, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Chairman on Security, Hon. Hillary Egbeigwe, has been reassigned as SSA on Transport, while Mr. Godwin Chukwuma Ogbuagu has been appointed as the new SSA on Security.
Sources at the meeting disclosed that the current security strategies were reviewed and fresh approaches were mapped out to strengthen surveillance; boost inter-community collaboration; and increase rapid response to threats.
The chairman urged residents of Idenu to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies as government intensifies operations to eliminate insecurity in the area.
It would be recalled that in the past one week, suspected herders have gone on rampage shooting and abducting several persons across communities in the LGA.
