Chief Ogochukwu Ohaja has been honoured with a famous ‘Distinguished Fellowship Award ‘for his outstanding contributions in addressing the negative effects of environmental degradation, environmental devastation, desertification, ecological disasters, gully erosion incessant flooding drying up of wetlands, forest fires and promoting environmental sustainability, green growth and climate adaptation and advancement of better environmental health policies.
Chief Ogochukwu Ohaja was conferred with this prestigious honour by the Environmental Management and and Disaster Risk Reduction lnstitute (EMDRRI) at a colourful ceremony in Abuja recently.
The DG/CEO of the
EMDRRI, Mr Stephen Ogboli conferred the Distinguished Fellowship Award on an excited Chief Ogochukwu Ohaja who expressed delight at the award stating that it is a call for more dedicated service on his part. In his words, ”lt is a welcome development. As a matter of fact, I am excited. I am very happy. I give all the glory to God Almighty who made it possible”, he stated.
Responding to the media on his views on the issue of environmental challenges, Chief Ohaja has this to say,” Essentially, the environment starts from home where we live. I want to encourage the citizens to be sensitive and also to be environmental friendly.
“There are also basic tools that you can apply when it comes to environmental management. For insurance, when you have a toxic related issue in the house, the application of nose masks and gloves should be in place and use.
“These are the essentials that are not too difficult to do or acquire. Also, we should be mindful of the way we dispose our disposables.
“If we are conscious of those little little things that will turn out to be hazards to our health, security will better and it will reduce sickness”, the newly crowned ‘Distinguished Fellow’, Chief Ohaja advised.
The Celebrant further expressed his confidence in the Institute stating that he is quite happy to be associated with this prestigious Institute and he is also convinced that those that matters in the EMDRRI deemed it fit to confer him with this honour based on his track record of performance; Chief Ogochukwu Ohaja added.
On his part, the DG/CEO of EMDRRI hailed the remarkable strides of the Celebrant, Chief Ohaja, noting that the institute is engaged in addressing the harmful impacts of environmental devastation and so duly honours deserving personalities and organisations that complement it’s environmental sustainability agenda: ”The EMDRRI is not only a scientific and research body but is also engaged in environmental sustainability, climate adaptation and green growth policies that will address climate change, desertification, ecological disasters and other negative environmental scenarios.
“So we are actively partnering with those that are involved in our area of activity.
“We believe this award will spur him to greater achievements in the environmental sustainability arena. The EMDRRI also organises workshops, seminars, training courses, sensitisation campaigns across the country and our members are in the National Assembly, the Executive and even the Honourable Minister is part of us and we are all working for the benefit of mankind.
” We have state offices in Benue, Delta, Edo as well as our headquarters in Abuja”, – Mr Ogboli reiterated.
The event witnessed the presence of eminent dignitaries from the Institute and the Media space.
Prominent amongst them were the Vice Chairperson of the Institute, Chife Uzoma Ontegbadue, Fnipr, Registerar, Nigerian institute of Public Relations, Chife Barista Bright Osagwe, Director Promotion, Police Service Commission, Eng(NZE) Danis Orji FNSE, Fnihte(Fellow of Nigerian Institute of of Highways And transportation Engineers). Director Federal Highways, Federal Ministry Works Retired. The Akobuije of obizi Mbaise and MD/CEO Phinish Engineering Consult Limited.
