Hon. Nandi Ezechi, a member representing the good people of Ndokwa/Ukwani Federal constituency, Delta State and who is also a member of an Ad-hoc Committee investigating the non remittance to the Housing Funds (NHF) and utilization of the funds since 2011, reveals how the Committee intensified efforts to rejuvenate the anomalies in the public sector and also as a matter of urgency calls on the Federal government to address the deteriorating situation of the Ndokwa nation.
Hon. Ezechi expressed disappointment the way and manner workers investment in the National Housing Funds were manipulated by their handlers. He said it is more worrisome when National Insurance Commission (NICON) couldn’t show evidence of Insurance companies who were in default of remitting workers investment to the Federal Mortgage Bank.
In 2019 alone 54 companies did not remit about #267 billion. Ezechi said frantically that the issue of non remittance of workers’ NHF contributions is not something to joke with and assured that the committee will get to the bottom of the matter.
Hon. Ezechi said ” the purpose of the National Housing Funds which is the provision of affordable residential houses for Nigerians can not be achieved by these types of inconsequential behavior of the handlers.”
He also expresses confidence on the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Dachung Bagos of his capabilities and experience in handling the issues before the committee as he said ” I am confident that the Chairman, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos is experienced and has what it takes to achieve conceivable results”
Ezechi further articulated his delight on the 10th Assembly that they will perform optimally and it will not be business as usual. According to him the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas from inception has assured Nigerians that the 10th Assembly will not compromise on issues bothering the good people of the country. He stressed further that their committee’s duty is to investigate and make recommendations to the Speaker. He expressed optimism that a highly sensitive issue like the NHF will not be swept under the carpet.
Hon. Ezechi who heils from the oil and gas region derided the unimaginable neglect of the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency and as a matter of urgency calls on Federal government to intervene to ameliorate the already deteriorating situation of the people who are contributing immensely to the economy of the nation.
He further started that, the region has the resources and all it takes for the Federal government to give them the rightful development she deserves. He therefore urge the appropriate quarters to give them attention.
He laments lack of electricity in the region. That their case is like the proverbial fish in the ocean, yet thirsty. The region produce the highest gas in the country. The issue of electrification in Ndukwa, over the years, individual power plants were built but the people are still living in darkness. They have the highest gas reserve in the whole of sub- African region. The Rep. enunciated that Federal government has not been fair to his
people and it is part of his responsibility to project towards making sure that the needful accomplished.
“Ndokwa is hosting Multi national companies like the joint venture of Agip and NNPC, though Okpai as a community has light but it is not adequately okay, it should go beyond that to the neighboring communities.” he opined
Rep. Ezechi also quibbled about non presence of higher institutions in the entire Ndukwa which calls for concern, the Road from Kwali to Okpai, the host of 960 mega watts of electricity that transverse from Okpai to Busi, supply electricity to 11 states and also Niger Republic and yet no meaningful government presence.
He sum up with when former President, Olusegun Obasanjo came to Ndokwa to commission project in 2005 and asked a simple question, that now he hope the region will be light up? Since that time up to date nothing is been done he added
