NGO cautions INEC against election postponement

A Non Governmental Organization (NGO), African Network For Peace And Good Governance (ANPG) has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), against postponing the Feb. 25 and March 11 general election in Nigeria.
The Executive Director of the organization, Mr Bede Aneke said this in a statement entitled, “2023 Elections: Four Mistakes INEC should not Repeat.”
Aneke said that INEC should conduct both the Presidential and Governorship election as scheduled.
He urged the commission to deliver election that would be generally acceptable, adding that the outcome of the election would determine the shape the country would take in the next four years.
The executive director said that the world was watching, thereby urging INEC to deliver to Nigerians elections that would truly reflect the wishes and aspirations of the masses.
“The suffering is unbearable and painful, we can’t continue in this trajectory,” Aneke said.
Aneke went further to list, election postponement, malfunction of BVAS machine, late rrrival of INEC officials and deployment of voting materials, denial of opposition parties and election observers access to electoral process as some of the mistakes INEC should not repeat.
He said that Nigerians were already tired with the current situation of things in the country, which could not be totally insulated from the faulty governance architecture since the return of democracy.
Aneke added that the people were gasping to breathe fresh air, and warned that nothing should derail the 2023 general election.
