The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has said that it introduced the game of cricket in Taraba State to further engage the youth of the area.
Obinna Ohurogu, a coach with the NCF, said at the state sports council, that the introduction had become necessary in order to engage pupils and students of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the game.
On the association’s readiness to take the game to greater height, Ohuogu said that plans to engage games masters of various schools had as well been mapped out.
While admonishing parents and guardians to collaborate with the state sports council and the cricket federation by encouraging their children and wards to embrace the sport, he promised that the leadership of the federation would leave no stone unturned to make the game acceptable in the nooks and crannies of the state and the country at large.
Elated by the introduction of the game, the Director of Sports in the state, George Shitta, said that “this is the first time the game is introduced to join other sporting associations.”
He assured the NCF of his readiness to support them amidst the abundant talents in the nooks and crannies of the state.
He also assured the federation that the state government would do all it can to sustain the game in the state. ##
