Nigeria’s Super Eagles narrowly beat their counterparts from Cape Verde 2-1 in their second World Cup qualifying fixture on Tuesday evening.
The Super Eagles began their quest to be at the tournament to be hosted by Qatar with a 2-0 win over Liberia last Friday.
Gernot Rohr’s squad was without some key UK -based players for the trip to Mindelo.
The hosts took a shock lead in the 20th minute through Dylan Tavares.
However, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen made it 1-1 for Nigeria before the break.
With the game heading for a draw, Kenny Santos diverted the ball past his goalkeeper, to hand the three-time African Champions all three points.
Meanwhile Nigeria captain, Ahmed Musa, has become the third player in the country’s history to make 100 appearances.
Musa reached the milestone as he was picked to start against Cape Verde in a World Cup qualifying fixture in Mindelo.
The 28-year-old first represented the country at youth level, before making his senior debut on August 5, 2010 in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar.
He becomes only the third centurion for the Super Eagles, with Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama both on 101 caps each.
Musa will have the chance to draw level with Yobo and Enyeama, if he plays against the Central African Republic in October.
He has scored 15 times so far for Nigeria. ##
