The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has been elected as the South-East Vice Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Emma Madu made available to newsmen in Awka.
Madu said the legislators had on Thursday elected new leaders for the various geopolitical zones to pilot the affairs of the conference which represents the collective interest of various state Legislatures towards ensuring a robust legislative institution across the country.
According to the statement, the election was aimed at promoting the rule of law and good governance in the country.
Meanwhile, during the conference held in Abuja, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor was elected the national Chairman of the conference of speakers of state legislatures in Nigeria.
Six Vice Chairmen were elected to represent Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Those elected included Rt.Hon.Bilaminu Ismael from Zamfara State (North West), Rt Hon.Mohammed Abubakar from Gombe State (North East), Rt Hon.Yusuf Umar from Kogi State (North Central), Rt.Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze from Anambra State (South East), Rt Hon.Abraham Ngobere from Bayelsa State (South South) and Rt.Hon.Adeoye Aribasoye from Ekiti State (South West).
Speaking after his election, Udeze thanked the legislators for finding him worthy to serve the country and South East zone in particular in such exalted legislative position.
He said that he would use his wealth of experience as a three-time elected legislator and speaker to promote legislative excellence and leadership.
He assured the people of South East zone of his preparedness to champion a collective legislation that will foster regional development among the five States of the zone in line with the guiding principles of the conference of speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria.
He solicited the support of his colleagues, Governors of the South East, as well as the Nigerian masses.
