Ahead of the preparation for the forthcoming 2023 general elections, the movement for good governance and ethical leadership on Friday held her press conference and inauguration ceremony at the Tinubu support group campaign office in Abuja to drum support for APC presidential candidate,Bola Amhed Tinubu and his running mate kashim Shettma
The Director General and convener of the ceremony, Ambassador H.K,Bello while addressing Newsmen at the end of the ceremony expressed his excitement over the success of the event explaining that movement for good governance and ethical leadership (MGGEL) has been in existence since 2006 indicating it is time tested organization that have what it takes to deliver good governance and ethical leadership in Nigeria.
In the are area of election, the DG assured the general populace that MGGEL, as a reputable organization has the template and requisite knowledge and experience in making sure that right people are voted to occupy political offices.
On his part, Distinguished senator, Tolu Odebiyi, the newly conferred grand patron of the organization, representing Ogun west senatorial district while delivering his keynote address on the Theme, “BAT/SKS:SUSTAINING GOOD GOVERNANCE TROUGH ETHICAL LEADERSHIP eulogizing the DG/convener of the ceremony for conceptualizing the idea at this critical stage that Nigeria is facing enormous challenges bothering on good governance since the return of democracy in 1999.
He explained that the grassroots remain the critical segment of Nigeria society believing that if the resources are equally distributed more importantly to the grassroots there will be equitable spread of development to that effect.
Speaker stressed further, defined good governance according to the office of the human right commission of United Nations as the process whereby public institutions conduct public affair, manage public resources and guarantee the realization of human rights in a manner essentially free from abuse and corruption and with due regard to rule of law. Ethical leadership on the other hand is the type of leadership that is directed by respect for ethical beliefs, values and for the dignity and right of others.
He further observed from the above definition that ethical leadership involves putting people into management and leadership positions who will promote and be an example of appropriate ethical conduct in their actions and relationship in the working place.
He stated that participation, rule of law, effectiveness, efficiency, accountability, transparency, equity and inclusiveness are the major hallmarks of good governance and ethical leadership in Nigeria.
The senator noted that people at the helms of affairs have failed integrity test of good governance and ethical leadership advising them to jettison idea of operating centralized ,trickle down approach that is not based on consultation.
He therefore, encouraged people at the helms of affairs to deploy all strategies to a platform that brings together different stakeholders involved not as ruler to subject but as public servants to the citizens that we serve.
Senator Odebiyi, explained that upon his assumption of office at the red chamber as a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria at the 9th National Assembly representing Ogun west senatorial district, made the good governance and ethical leadership the hallmark of his leadership style. He demonstrated it by providing good representation, good governance youth empowerment and accountability.
He believed that these are dividends he can provide for his constituents in recognition of the mandate given to him to represent them at the National assembly Furthermore the senator reiterated that every responsive and responsible government must run its administration in such a way that good governance and ethical leadership and accountability is made visible. In doing this,he believed that government must be people- friendly and must carry its citizens along in its policy making process and develop an efficient and effective feedback mechanism.
He added ” This is the critical missing link among most leader more often than not, the lack of good governance and ethical leadership is seen to manifest in number of ways such as inability to provide basic necessities for the people including prompt payment of salaries and embarking on development project that will not make life meaningful to the teeming populace, administration corruption and execution of jobs among others.
He concluded that as the independent national electoral commission has announced Sep.28th, 2022 for the commencement of pollical campaign for presidential and national assembly elections and as well governorship and state house of assembly is also expected to commence in the few weeks respectively. The distinguished senator passionately appeal to the the newly inaugurated members of movement for good governance and ethical leadership to map out strategies to engage candidates vying for various political offices with a view to determining their capacity and preparedness for the task ahead.
In the same vein, chief Mrs. Yetunde Babajide, MGGEL national women leader, while speaking with Newsmen after the inauguration ceremony expressed her confidence in candidacy of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate of winning the forthcoming general elections reminding the people of Nigerians most especially the women and the youths that Asiwaju has been taking care of them even before this time.
She also assured Nigerians that APC presidential candidate will fix the economy, security and also making sure that everything is done perfectly on his assumption of office as the president of federal republic of Nigeria.
The guests of honour at the press conference/Inauguration ceremony are senator George Akume, senator Victor Ndoma Egba,senator Tolu Odebiyi, Barrister Yussuf Hamish, Engineer Kayode, Ojo and Hon.(Otunba) Timehin Adelegbe(MHR).They were all conferred with grand patron of the organization in recognition of their selfless service to humanity.
