The Njiko Igbo Forum (NIF), has accused Five Governors in the South East region of ganging up against the presidential candidacy of an Igbo man, Mr Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The leader of the forum, Rev Dr Okechukwu Obioha, made the allegation in a statement issued on Thursday in Enugu.
He said it was unfortunate that even Governor Alex Otti of Abia State had joined his other colleagues in working against Obi.
However, Obioha expressed the confidence that Obi will still garner 98 per cent of the votes from the South-East, irrespective of the governor’s opposition.
“The people will give Peter Obi 98% votes in the South East, ” he said.
Obioha urged voters across the South East to ignore the governors and vote massively for Obi, while voting out the governor’s, especially those seeking reelection in 2027.
The forum accused President Bola Tinubu of running a one-sided government.
“For whatever it’s worth, this country called Nigeria was fought for by Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe an Igbo.
“The Igbo are a majority tribe in Nigeria and Christian dominated. Since the advent of this democracy in 1999, the Igbo has been neglected and sidelined and this 2027, other reasonable patriotic Nigerians want an Igbo in the person of Peter Obi to be President.
“The South East governors for reasons best known to them do not want the Igbo to have their bearing or their dignity and respect restored in and with Nigeria.
“They are now the enemy of Ndigbo and their decision to vote for Tinubu cannot work.
“No wonder Dr Alex Oti invited the wife of Tinubu to come to Abia State recently and dolled out two billion Naira for the Akwete materials.
“Dr Alex Oti is paying Peter Obi on whose back he rode to become the governor with a bad coin.
“He has destroyed the axiom that says one good turn deserves another.
“We call on all voters in all the South-East states that their governors standing for election on the 6th February, 2027, they should vote against them, including Dr Alex Oti of Abia State.
“The struggle for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2027, will determine the survival of Ndigbo in Nigeria.
“All Igbo votes in the whole Nigeria must be for Peter Obi and with the votes of other meaningful Nigerians, Peter Obi will become President and our suffering, peace, security, unity and progress will be Nigeria’s portion.
“A project of Nigeria with equity, justice and fairness, where the Igbo tribe, a major partner in the project called Nigeria, is excluded, is not a project,” he said.
