Port Harcourt – The Sole Administrator of Rivers, retired Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state to render selfless and dedicated service during their service year.
Ibas gave this charge to the 2025 Batch A, Stream 1 corps members at the closing ceremony of their three-week orientation course held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai area of Rivers.
He told the corps members that selfless and dedicated service was essential to meeting the expectations of the local population, particularly those residing in the rural communities.

“Corps members must work diligently to achieve the aspirations of the people of Rivers State.
“Serving with a strong sense of responsibility and patriotism will allow them to leave behind legacies that will stand the test of time within their host communities,” he said.
The sole administrator also assured the corps members of their safety and the warm hospitality of the state’s residents.
“Our exceptioanl hospitality and goodwill will make corps members reluctant to return to their home states after their service year,” Ibas remarked.
In his address, Mr Moses Oleghe, NYSC Coordinator in Rivers, congratulated the corps members for their commendable performances in various tasks during the orientation course.
He noted that despite the challenges of a regimented camp lifestyle, the corps members discharged their duties with diligence and enthusiasm.
“The corps members are now prepared for the next phase of the scheme, which is to contribute meaningfully to sectors such as education, primary healthcare, agriculture, and rural infrastructure,” Oleghe stated.
The NYSC coordinator also appealed to community leaders, employers, and other stakeholders to provide corps members with appropriate accommodation and welfare incentives to encourage optimal performance.
