The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its commitment in providing a crime free space in Anambra through it renewed efforts against cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime, and other social vices which has hindered peaceful co-existence amongst all strata in the state.
The command showecased its willfulness through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), following a strategic working visit to the state by a delegation from the Inspector-General of Police.
The delegation, was led by the National Coordinator of POCACOV, SP Orvenonne Ikwen, PhD, who is in Anambra on Wednesday to strengthen collaboration with the state government, traditional rulers, educational institutions, religious organisations, youth groups, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders in promoting peace, security, and responsible citizenship.
Ikwen, as part of the working visit, with his team paid a courtesy calls on the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, and the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III of Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra
The advocacy visit hinged on discussions that is focused on building stronger institutional partnerships to tackle the root causes of crime, particularly among young people, through preventive policing, sustained public enlightenment, value reorientation, mentorship, and active community participation.
The state government and traditional institution commended the Inspector-General of Police for sustaining the POCACOV initiative, describing it as a proactive, people-oriented strategy for crime prevention.
They also pledged their continued support to ensure the campaign reaches communities across the state.
Speaking during the engagement, the National Coordinator reaffirmed the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police to supporting initiatives that discourage cultism, drug abuse, violent extremism, cybercrime, and other criminal activities through strategic partnerships and sustained stakeholder engagement.
She emphasised that effective policing requires collaboration among communities, government institutions, parents, schools, and faith-based organisations in guiding and empowering young people to become responsible citizens.
The advocacy visit also featured interactive sessions with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 13, AIG Miller Gajere Dantawaye, PSC, and the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, FWC, MNIPS, PhD, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
Members of the National Coordinator’s entourage included Mr. Collins Iwuoba, Mr. Akindele Adegebo, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno, Comrade Ken Okoli, members of the POCACOV State Working Committee, and POCACOV ambassadors from various parts of Anambra State.
The Anambra State Police Command urged residents to embrace the POCACOV initiative by supporting programmes that promote positive values, lawful conduct, and constructive youth engagement.
The Command reiterated its commitment to working with all stakeholders to strengthen security and foster lasting peace and stability across Anambra State.
