
The Nsukka Education Zone, has emerged winners of the 2025 Enugu State Secondary Schools Games held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The zone also carted away N1million naira prize money after wining 12 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals.
Udi Zone came 2nd with eight gold, five silver and four bronze medals. The zone also went home with N500,000 .
Awgu zone came a distant 3rd with five gold, nine silver, and five bronze medals and N300,000.
Enugu, Agbani and Obollo- Afor, Zones contended with 4th,5th and 6th positions respectively.
In the male football match, Enugu Zone defeated Nsukka, 2-0.
Speaking at the event, Governor Peter Mbah assured of his administration’s commitment towards improving sports in the state.
He said that sports could help empower young people.
Mbah, who was reprsented on the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia promised that the games would be an annual event.
He said it was an opportunity for the next generation of sportsmen/women to be discovered, and harnessed to represent the state and Nigeria in major championships.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ekweremadu pointed out the readiness of Enugu state to compete in the forthcoming National Youth Games, scheduled to hold in Asaba, Delta State, from August 26- September 6,2025.
He added that some athletes were already in camp for the games.
” I am delighted to announce that some of the outstanding athletes, who have competed well will go on to represent Enugu State at the forthcoming National Youth Games.
“We are confident that they will make us proud’, he said.
