Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, under the auspices of “The New PDP in Enugu State” have vowed to unseat Gov. Peter Mbah in the 2027 general election in the state.
They stated this after their meeting on Thursday in Enugu where they reviewed the recent defection of Mbah to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement jointly signed by Dr Godwin Udibe and Chief John Nwobodo, Esq, Chairman and Secretary respectively, the stakeholders berated the governor for leaving the PDP that made him.
“We are poised to repositioning the PDP to defeat Mbah and reclaim the Enugu State Government House in 2027, ” the statement said.
The stakeholders acknowledged the right of the governor in the exercise of his freedom of association to join any party of his choice, but not to dismantle the party’s structure.
“Notwithstanding the vacuum created by the governor’s exit, we make bold to state that there are more than enough able, competent and progressive members poised to reposition the party.
“We declare that PDP remains a formidable platform in Enugu State and the defection of the governor, and others will not affect the fortunes of the PDP in Enugu State, come 2027, ” the statement reads.
The stakeholders resolved to immediately commence a rebuilding effort under the auspices of the New PDP Enugu State.
They also commended the National Leadership of the party for its efforts towards restructuring and repositioning PDP.
“We specially commend the ongoing preparations by the National Convention Organising Committee led by Gov. Umaru Fintri of Adamawa for their steadfast commitment to organising a successful National Convention.
“Most importantly, we appreciate the PDP leadership for appointing Sen. Ben Obi as Secretary, PDP National Convention Organising Committee to replace Gov. Mbah the erstwhile Secretary of the Committee, ” stakeholders said.
The New PDP pledged to commence immediate reconciliatory efforts to unite members of the party in the state.
