The Members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Anambra chapter, have showered gifts worth of hundreds of naira and edibles putting smiles, joy ,laughter on the faces of children at Tender love Orphanage Home in Awka.
Mrs Tochukwu Ifejika,Chairperson, NAWOJ Anambra chapter, led the delegation on Wednesday in Awka .
She called on government and good spirited individuals to give subvention to motherless homes to support welfare of the children.
She said that the chapter resolved to celebrate differently with a visit to the children living without their biological parents as a way to show care and love to them.
Ifejirka said the association visited the orphanage home as a way to touch lives of the poor and give a little care affordable.
She said in the past they used to visit schools and share items or hold advocacy on need to uphold child”s rights bill accros the nation and harpes on the benefits to the society .
Ifejirika said they visited the children with cooked food and drinks and none cooked items to celebrate the day having direct impact on hhe chlidren.
” I felt fullflied eating my meal with the children,sharing the cake and having their drink was the height of the visit for me,” she said.
In her response,The manager of the home, Mrs Helen Eze said that the visits visibly excited the children on their special day.
Eze expressed gratitude to NAWOJ for all the items like diapers, wipes,cartons of biscuits, indomie,toilet rolls, soaps amongst other items.
She said that government ,NGOs and wealthy citizens should emulate the footprint of the body and always desire to put value in orphanage homes for well being of the special children.
Eze said that the economic hardship is not easy with the home to ensure that the chidren not only feed well but can be exposed social points where they can interact with other children.
She said that the governments to build up health facilities and mobility to enable feel great and show up hheir potentials without hinderances.
The children offered prayers, asking God to bless and replenish abundantly the NAWOJ purse for their generosity and kindness.
Mrs Regina Igwebuike ,committee chairperson for the Children’s Day celebration said the decision to visit home was reached with aim to show mother care to the motherless children.
Igwebuike said that the committee worked hard to raise fund from good spirited individuals to make the day a reality.
” I was happy to see the children enjoy the meal and especially i was touched seeing the children excited while eating with us.
” I am grateful to God who made the planning a success.
“we were allowed the blessing to sit, eat and danced with the children,it is a great memory” she said.
She urged the public to make a visit to the motherless homes a routine exetcise to give them a feel of belonging to same society.
” We need to support their welfare regularly to reassure these children how valued they are to the society” Igwebuike said.
