The Enugu State Good Governance Innitiative (ENS-GGI) a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), has berated the administration of Ezeagu local government council led by Mr Chukwudu Ozoeluba for poor governance in the area.
The group made its feelings known after inspecting some projects embarked by the council as part of its independent assessment of projects being carried out by the local government administration.
The Good Governance Initiative comprised leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Civil Society Coalition in the state.
The team was on its biennial inspection of projects embarked by the local government councils in the state and it’s impact on the masses.
On arrival at the council headquarter, the team spent several hours waiting for the arrival of the council chairman who eventually did not show up.
The chairman deliberately shunned the team and directed one Ozoani Bethrand, a clerical officer in the council, to take the team round his projects.
In the course of the inspection the team found out that the administration had no serious projects on ground.
Also, some projects initiated by past administrations of the council were left to ruins and covered by weeds with no efforts by the current administration to revamp them in the interest of the people.
A sitting pavilion with football pitch constructed by past chairman of the council has been overgrown by weeds and left to rot away.
The team also observed that the multi-purpose hall said to have been started by the current administration has been abandoned, while weeds have swallowed key projects said to have been renovated by the current council administration.
Speaking after the projects inspection, leaders of the GGI said the projects showcased by the council was nothing to write home about.
The State Chairman of NLC, Fabian Nwigbo, vice chairman of NUJ, Regis Anukwuoji and chairman of civil society coalition, Onyebuchi Igboke described the situation in the council as a show of shame.
