
The finals of Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Secondary Schools Games, has commenced with arrival and accreditation of athletes at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The games is designed to help the state discover budding sporting talents, who will represent the state at national and international championships.
A statement issued by the Director, Information, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dan Onwuegbuna said the finals of the games would hold from August 7 – 10, 2025, at two venues; the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Ogui Road, and the Sports Council premises, at Nkpokiti Road, Independence Layout, Enugu.
The statement quoted the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu as thanking Governor Peter Mbah for approving the games.
The commissioner noted His Excellency’s unwavering commitment towards sports development in the State.
Ekweremmadu pointed out that the games was a collaborative efforts of his ministry and the state Post Primary Schools Management Board ( PPSMB).
He said that games was the culmination of the inter- Secondary Schools games at the local government areas in the 6 Educational Zones in the State, namely, Enugu, Agbani, Awgu, Udi, Nsukka and Udenu.
According to the statement, the Games would feature, athletics, boxing, chess, basketball, volleyball football, tennis and Scrabble.
“The Games will help the State select the best athletes for the forth- coming National UNDER 15 Youth Games, scheduled for Asaba, Delta State in September, 2025, ” the statement reads.
