The Commander of the Enugu State Transport Management Agency (ESTMA), Mr Kenneth Ugwu, has lauded Governor Peter Mbah’s achievement in the transportation sector.
Speaking to newsmen on the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the agency in Enugu, on Wednesday, the commander said that the governor’s giant strides in the transportation sector was unprecedented in the history of Enugu State.
He said the governor had distinguished himself as one of the best state chief executive in the country through his initiatives in the transportation sector.
“The establishment of EnuguAir with direct flight from China sets him aside as the best.
“He is doing well, he has built transport terminals in different places in the state to ease movements of vehicles in and out of the state capital and Nsukka, ” he said.
He also lauded the governor for installing traffic lights at strategic junctions in the state capital, saying this has eased the agency’s operations.
He also said that the appointment of the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Obi Ozor, was in the right direction as he is doing a lot to reposition the ministry.
“The commissioner is doing a lot to reposition the transportation sector in the state. He is working very closely with the governor to achieve results. I commend him, ” Ugwu said.
The commander said that the agency had been able to restore orderliness in the movement of vehicular traffic in Enugu metropolis since it’s inception in 2017.
According to him, the agency has ensured that motorists obey traffic signs and traffic lights to maintain orderliness on the roads.
Ugwu appealed to the governor to increase the agency’s patrol vehicles for better patrol of the city, as well as effective monitoring of traffic offenders.
He said that one of the greatest challenges facing the agency in the state was social media exposures.
“While our operatives are doing their jobs people take videos and pictures, especially when there is little confusion.
“It posses a big challenge for our operations, ” Ugwu said.
Highlights of the anniversary celebration was a motorcade by the agency on some major roads in the city center.
