The Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited (EEDL) has honoured outstanding members of its workforce at its maiden Mid-Year Staff Recognition Awards, as part of efforts to promote excellence, boost employee morale, and enhance service delivery.
Speaking at the ceremony, the company’s Head of Communications, Mrs. Patience Ezeagu, said the initiative was introduced to recognise exceptional staff for their dedication and contributions to the organisation’s growth.
Ezeagu explained that the awards would henceforth be held twice yearly, at mid-year and the end of the year, to motivate employees, encourage healthy competition, and reinforce a culture of excellence across the organisation.
She said the recognition programme underscored EEDL’s commitment to delivering quality electricity services through a motivated and high-performing workforce.
Addressing employees, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EEDL, Engr. Nnamdi Chuka-Nwosu, commended the staff for their resilience, teamwork, and commitment to the company’s objectives despite operational challenges.
“I have so much belief in the EEDL team. I know I have the best team, and we will always remain the best,” he said.Chuka-Nwosu applauded the workforce for sustaining the company’s operations during the first half of the year and assured them of management’s continued support in addressing workplace challenges.
“We are aware of the challenges on the job, and we are working to surmount them. Any support required to make your work easier and more effective will be provided,” he assured.
He also urged employees to remain customer-focused by demonstrating professionalism, courtesy, and effective communication in all dealings with electricity consumers.
Also speaking, the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Cyprian Nwankwegu, congratulated the staff on their performance and urged marketers to ensure prompt distribution of electricity bills and timely escalation of customer complaints for quick resolution.
He encouraged employees to remain committed to building a stronger organisation for the benefit of both the company and its workforce.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to outstanding employees across various departments.
The awards recognised excellence in categories including Overall Best Meter Technician, Best Substation Operator, Best Linesman, Best Cable Jointer, Best Marketer, Best Billing Officer, Best Customer Service Officer, Best Electrical Fitter, Best Operations Technician, Best Feeder Manager, Best Cleaner, Best Driver, and Best Security Officer, among others.
The award recipients received certificates of recognition and cash gifts from the Managing Director in appreciation of their outstanding performance and contributions to the company’s growth.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mrs. Christiana Obasi, who won the Best Billing Officer Award, thanked the management for introducing the recognition programme.
She described the initiative as a significant motivation for employees and pledged that the awardees would remain committed to professionalism, improved productivity, and the achievement of the company’s operational and revenue targets.
The Mid-Year Staff Recognition Awards complement EEDL’s End-of-Year Recognition Awards introduced in 2025 and reflect the company’s commitment to rewarding excellence, improving staff motivation, and enhancing reliable electricity service delivery across Ebonyi State.
