I have reflected on the EBU-Nigeria September 26th & 27th meeting, watched several video clips, interviewed several people, and concluded that the meeting was just a mockery of democracy and due process. It was a gross waste of previous time and scarce financial resources of most of the participants who traveled from various destinations to attend the meeting.
Can anyone tell me what was actually accomplished at this September 2025 CEC meeting?
The reasons for my conclusion are discussed below.
First, EBU-Nigeria Central Executive Committee is a delegate-based meeting with the composition of the delegates listed in Chapter 4, section 15 (3) of the EBU Constitution.
A well organized and facilitated delegate meeting must meet the following basic conditions:
- An agenda must be created in collaboration with the delegates and circulated within 24 hours in advance.
- Ground rules must be established and conditions for participation explained ahead of time.
- Equitable and equal participation and speaking opportunities offered to all the delegates.
From all indications, every objective observer will agree with me that none of the above conditions was met during this September CEC meeting.
With regards to Condition #1, no delegate was given the agenda of the items to be discussed at the meeting. The PRO of EBU-Nigeria simply shared the notice of the meeting which contained the date and venue of the meeting. Since PG Ebuka Onuorah assumed office, he has never shared any meeting agenda ahead of time. In most cases, he hides the agenda of the meeting to enable him to ambush the participants in order achieve his clandestine objectives.
Condition #2 was not met. Most of the delegates were disenfranchised with more than 50% of the eligible delegates denied access to the venue. Even some delegates who showed up at the Secretariat were beaten and assaulted including the well-respected home Chairman of Iruobieli Village, Mr. Obiorah Anuta, Obeleze. Iruobieli Village is the second largest village in Enugwu-Agidi and to deny the home Chairman access to the meeting makes the meeting a nullity.
In PG Ebuka Onuorah’s preconceived motive to disenfranchise some delegates he perceives as enemies; he engaged in a blatant unconstitutional act by changing the rules of participation during the meeting when he insisted that the payment of a security levy by branches was a condition for participating in the CEC. A simple look at Section 15 of EBU-Nigeria Constitution will prove the PG wrong. There is no such condition.
Condition #3 – equal participation and speaking opportunities by delegates – is one thing that is always absent in PG Ebuka Onuorah’s meetings. He never allows people with opposing views to speak. Throughout the recently concluded CEC meeting about 40% – 50% of the speeches were made by only six participants in the persons of Ebuka Onuorah, Emeka Egwuekwe, Sunwan Okoye, Alex Anaesona, Chidi Okoye, and Clem Aguiyi.
Clem Aguiyi deserves a special mention with regards to this monopoly of meeting time. It is important to note that Clem Aguiyi was not at the CEC in any capacity because he was not a delegate from any village or branch. While Section 15 (3) (h) of EBU Constitution recognizes political officer holders as delegates, Clem is not holding any political office at the moment.
It was evident that at a point during today’s (27th September) meeting, PG Ebuka Onuorah handed over the facilitation of the meeting to Clem Aguiyi who is neither an Executive of EBU nor an official delegate at the CEC. In one of his monologues, Clem likened the savage gang up (by five people) and beating of Obeleze to a simple feud between a husband and wife. I know that Obeleze was not beaten up by his wife. It is very unfortunate for Clem to downgrade an obvious felonious crime, the beating of Obeleze, in the presence of PG Ebuka Onuorah’s armed forces (army and police) who stood idly by and watched the savagery without lifting any finger.
Clem Aguiyi as a lawyer knows that PG Ebuka Onuorah owes a duty of care and protection to anyone who was invited to the Secretariat for the CEC meeting. The good news is that we have the pictures of the military and police men and reports must be filed with the appropriate authorities.
We lost Anayo Nworah in 2021 during PG Ebuka Onuorah’s first tenure as the EBU Caretaker Committee Chairman and Ebuka has now reduced Enugwu-Agidi to a crime scene in his current tenure and we must ensure that justice is served for Obeleze.
