Cross River bye election: candidates sign peace accord
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Cross River State, Dr Cyril Omorogbe has said the Commission was poised to conducting a free, fair and credible elections in the bye election scheduled for February 26, 2022 for Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency and Akpabuyo State Constituency.
Omorogbe said this on Friday in Ogoja at the signing of Peace Accord by candidates of nine Political Parties contesting for Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Calabar, he said that the use of Biometrics Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would facilitate direct transfer of election results.
“This will help uphold transparent elections. INEC is ready to conduct free, fair and credible elections without compromising standards,” he said.
The REC urged stakeholders to shun actions capable of truncating the smooth election process such as violence, attempt to rigging, thuggery and other malpractices.
Speaking, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Aminu Alhassan warned that the police was ready to maintain law and order before, during and after the election.
The CP warned trouble shooters to stay clear of the election, adding that the force was fully mobilised for the exercise.
According to the statement signed by Mrs Anthonia Nwobi, Head of Voter Education and Publicity only six out of 10 candidates for the election signed the Peace Accord.
She said that three candidates vying for the Akpabuyo State Constituency in the House of Assembly would sign their own accord later Monday during INEC engagement with stakeholders in Akpabuyo.
