Enugu hoteliers partner government, security agencies on identity of tourists
The Society of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (STPN), Enugu State branch says it is collaborating with the State Government, Security Agencies and other Stakeholders on the Identity of Lodgers in various hotels in the state.
The State Chairman, Mr Chukwuemeka Ogbu disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.
“We work in partnership with Government in terms of furnishing them with information of people that come to lodge in our hotels.
“Though, that supposed to be coded information, but we are doing this to ensure that, we don’t lodge hoodlums into our hotels.
“We do this to make sure we don’t harbor people who will come and constitute insecurity in our state.
“We go as far as assessing their status to know where they are coming from; their mission in the vicinity; and things like that.
“We liaise with all relevant security agencies and even paramilitary outfits, NDLEA, Immigration among others,” he said.
Ogbu said these measures have contributed to ensuring that the tourism sector is booming in the state.
He appealed to the State Government to do something about the menace of multiple taxation in the sector.
According to him, multiple taxation has drastically affected the tourism industry in the state, especially the cost of operating hotel business.
