UN-WCD African Youth Envoy Joins APC Presidential Campaign Council
Prince Iwefa Aganaba, African Special Envoy on Youth of the United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD), has been appointed a member of the Finance/Treasury Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
The appointment has been described as a recognition of youth inclusion in governance under President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Prince Tonye Princewill, former spokesperson of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), congratulated Aganaba, describing the appointment as recognition of his competence, leadership and growing influence.
Princewill said Aganaba’s emergence was a source of pride for the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta, noting that the region had young people capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
He said the appointment also demonstrated the importance of giving competent young Nigerians opportunities to participate in national political leadership.
Aganaba was appointed African Special Envoy on Youth by the UN-WCD in October 2024.
His experience in youth advocacy and international diplomacy is expected to bring a broader perspective to his new responsibility in the APC campaign structure.
The Finance/Treasury Directorate is responsible for financial planning and resource management, making it a key component of the campaign council.
Supporters of the appointment said the inclusion of young leaders in such positions could encourage greater youth participation in governance and national development.
They added that Aganaba’s emergence underscored the Niger Delta’s contribution to national leadership beyond its natural resources.
Stakeholders also urged him to use the appointment to promote youth empowerment and encourage greater participation of young people in political and public affairs.
They said his elevation should inspire youths across the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta to pursue excellence and prepare for leadership at community, state and national levels.
The stakeholders further called on Aganaba to remain accessible and committed to advancing the interests of young Nigerians.
They expressed optimism that his combination of international youth advocacy and political engagement would help strengthen the connection between young people and national leadership.
The appointment comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, with youth participation expected to remain an important consideration in their mobilisation strategies.
The stakeholders commended President Tinubu for the appointment, saying that greater inclusion of young people in political structures could create opportunities for them to contribute to national development.
They urged other political leaders to recognise the capacity of young Nigerians and provide platforms for their participation in decision-making.
