The All Progressives Congress, APC Enugu has inaugurated the newly elected chairmen in the 17 local government areas of the state.
Speaking at the occasion which was held at the weekend at State Party Secretariat, the state chairman Rev. Okey Ogbodo advised the chairmen not to compromise and to always play politics without bitterness.
He frowned at the way the past leadership of the party in the state piloted it’s affairs in the past and assured that the party under his leadership was ready to play a complete opposition politics in the state.
“Politics is comradeship, I didn’t come to destroy but to put things right” Ogbodo said.
Rev. Ogbodo therefore advised the new local government executives to be righteous and faithful members who will channel their strength towards reforming the party and bringing back its glory in the state.
He lamented that the ruling party in state have not had any opposition to deal with because of the selfish interest of the past leadership of APC in the state who failed to play their major role.
“We now have a formidable political party executive to play opposition without compromise like our past executive.
“The ruling political party have been enjoying one party system as the past leaders of this party failed to do the right thing because of their selfishness”, Ogbodo lamented.
Rev. Ogbodo disclosed that playing a strong opposition politics is not bad because it will make the ruling party to sit up in the the interest of the masses.
He charged all the zones to prepare for campaign which will start from Nsukka zone immediately after the national congress at Abuja on 23rd of June to reach out to all the grassroots and ensure that APC takes over power in Enugu State come 2019.
“We also came here to tell you that after the forthcoming convention, we will begin effective grassroot campaign for 2019
“We need to fulfill the purpose of electing us and for us to achieve it we will stand on the side of truth at all times”, he said.
Newly elected chairman of the party, Ogbodo, said that Minister of Foreign Affairs will be the next President of Nigeria by 2023, when president Mohammed Buhari finishes his second tenure.
Condemning those who are trying to cause problems in the party, he urged them to remember that they are one family and pursue the same common interest which is to reposition APC to take both federal and state offices in the country and bring the good governance which the party promised.
“Some people are trying to bring faction in our party but is not good because we have common interest. We don’t have problem in our party.
“Ben Nwoye congratulated me on 19th May after state election and turned back to claim the elected chairman but I know few members of the party who don’t want us to achieve success are behind it”
He disclosed that the time of endorsement of candidates by PDP has passed, adding that every body would be given chance to contest because you will not know what someone can do until you give him a chance.
He however mandated the newly Chairmen to inaugurate the ward executives in their various local governments.
“You are hereby authorized to replicate what is done here today in every wards” he said.
