LP chieftain alleges plan to drag Edeoga to EFCC with trumped petitions
A Chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State, Barrister Chimezie Okeke has raised the alarm over alleged plan by the ruling PDP to drag the LP Governorship candidate, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga to the EFCC with trumped up petitions.
He disclosed this in a chat with Journalists in Enugu.
He said the ruling party in the state was uncomfortable with the towering posture of Edeoga since the ban on electioneering was lifted on October 12.
He recalled that the LP candidate in all his engagements with the public has been very vocal about his integrity and clean records, which has rattled the ruling party.
“Hon. Edeoga has never hidden the fact that the reason why he is still not in the EFCC watch list is because he is not corrupt.
“This has been one of the reasons why his candidature has variously been compared to that of Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party.
“I, therefore, wish to inform the general public of the grand plan by the ruling party to instigate false and thrumped up charges against Hon. Edeoga as a way to demarketing him.
“The objective which will fail, is to soil his clean image with imaginary charges, ” he said.
Meanwhile, the State chapter of the LP said it has saddled it’s Legal Team to study the recent High Court ruling and advise the party accordingly on the next step to take.
The State Publicity Secretary, of the party, Barrister Onuora Odo disclosed this in Enugu after an emergency meeting of the State Executives.
“We have asked our legal team to study the judgement and advise us accordingly, either to go for appeal or go for a fresh primary as ordered by the Court,” he said.
