Enugu north by-election: PDP’s candidate vows to recover amandate as tribunal begins sitting

The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the June 20 Enugu North Senatorial by-election, Dr Nestor Ezeme, Esq. has vowed to secure victory at the Election Petition Tribunal, which has commenced sitting at the Federal High Court , Enugu.
Ezeme said this while speaking with newsmen in Enugu, at the commencement of the tribunal sitting, saying that he is determined to reclaim what he described as “his stolen mandate from the June 20, 2026 senatorial by-election.”
It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Ikeje Asogwa winner of the election.
However, Ezeme of the PDP and his supporters have outrightly rejected the outcome of the election as declared by INEC, alleging serious irregularities and insisting that the true mandate of the electorate was subverted.
The Lawyer cum politician, immediately after the declaration filled a petition challenging the outcome and seeking judicial redress.
Speaking to newsmen on the commencement of the tribunal proceedings, he said it was an opportunity for him to reclaim the mandate that was freely given to him by the electorate.
He further said that he was positioning himself for another major electoral battle ahead of the 2027 general election as he has the mandate of his party to contest for 2027 senatorial elections.
“So, I am looking forward to a double victory; after reclaiming my mandate, I am also looking forward to winning the 2027 senatorial election for Enugu North district, ” he said.
He expressed confidence that his growing political profile, grassroots network and campaign message would make him a formidable force in the 2027 general election.
“It is about liberating Enugu North from ineffective representation and replacing political promises with measurable service, development and a stronger voice at the National Assembly, ” Ezeme said.
