Gov. Ugwuanyi flags-off training on soil testing, distributes fertilizers, Maize
Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has flagged off Enugu farmers’ training on soil testing as he distributed 260 bags of fertilizers and another 260 bags of maize to farmers.
Ugwuanyi flagged off the training at the launching of Enugu farming season organised by the Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme
(ENADEP), in collaboration with Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON in Enugu on Friday.
The governor, represented by Mr Steve Oruruo, Special Adviser to the governor on Information,
appreciated the efforts of ENADEP to promote agricultural development of the state.
Ugwuanyi lauded the ALGON for collaborating with ENADEP to empower Enugu Farmers for 2023 farming season.
He encouraged the farmers to maximize the opportunity which would result in the increase of agricultural production and income.
Earlier in his opening remark, the Programme Manager, ANADEP, Dr.Ogbonna Onyeisi congratulated the farmers selected to benefit from the training, the distribution of fertilizer and certified maize.
According to him, the training was organized to train farmers on soil sciences and climate smart agriculture.
“Cimate smart agriculture is emerging issue in agricultural development. We assert that farmers must appreciate environmental friendly agricultural practices,$ he said.
The ALGON Chairman, Mr Solomon Onah, who is also the Chairman of Udenu Local Government Council, in his goodwill message, expressed his joy over the training on soil science.
Omah recommended that the training should go round the 17 Local Government Councils in the state, urging the farmers to practise modern agricultural practices.
He narrated his experience in planting a wrong crop in wrong place which resulted in poor yield.
He appreciated the governor and the Programme Manager of ENADEP as he expressed the willingness of ALGON to partner with ENADEP to bring more empowerments to Farmers in the state.
The occasion ended with the official flagg-Off of the distribution of 10 bags of fertilizer and 10 bags of certified maize seeds to each Local Government as well as 17 Sets of Soil Testing Kits distributed
by the governor.
