Ezea who made the appeal while supporting the nomination of Chief Uche Nnaji as a Ministerial nominee, drew the attention of the Senate and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to the marginalization meted on the people of Enugu North Senatorial District in the appointment of a Minister in the country since 1999.
Senator Ezea explained further that no person from his zone has occupied the Ministerial position since the return of democracy in 1999 recalling that Enugu state has produced eight Ministers with non from Enugu North Senatorial District “where I represent”.
The fearless and erudite Distinguished Senator, made the passionate appeal by drawing his strength from the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Section 14 sub (1) and (3) which states that: “The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be a State based on the principles of democracy and social justice.
“The composition of the Government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons form a few States or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that government or in any of its agencies.”
He therefore maintained that while he is urging his colleagues to confirm the nomination of Chief Uche Nnaji as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he is equally appealing to President Tinubu to consider the plight of his Senatorial District who have been excluded in this area of appointment from 1999 to date
In the same vain, a socio cultural organization, Enugu North Professionals For Good Governance, have equally joined in the appeal to Mr. President, to consider nominating someone from Enugu North Senatorial District in his next batch of Ministerial appointments so as to give the people of the area a sense of belonging and inclusion.
The group in a statement signed by its President, Mr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Jonathan, JP, Esq., said that such gesture by President Tinubu will be greatly appreciated adding, “equal treatment begets peaceful coexistence”.
The group also commended Senator Okay Ezea popularly known as Ideke for drawing such important attention to address the decades of marginalization of Enugu North Senatorial District in the choice of who occupies the position of a Minister from the State.
