Port Harcourt – The Port Harcourt Distribution Company (PHED) has announced an upward review of salaries of workers by 20 per cent, to cushion rising inflation in the country.
PHED’s Managing Director, Dr Benson Uwheru announced this in a statement issued by the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr John Anonyai, in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
He said the upward review of remuneration and on boarding of employees into a new Health Maintenance organisation (HMO) insurance programme were part of strategies to motivate workers.
“The upward review of salaries of employees by 20 per cent is part of my People and Performance Management Strategy that took effect from Nov. 1.
“Upon resumption in July, I stated that my three point agenda was growing revenue and improving collection efficiency; reducing losses and standardizing processes, and improving employees’ welfare.
“So far, we have accomplished all the goals beginning with increased collection, reduced losses, standardized processes and now upward review of salary for all of our employees,” he said.
Uwheru commended members of staff for their contribution to the growth and successes recorded by the company in the last few months.
“Aside the salary review, we have moved our employees to a more reliable and efficient HMO that offers better healthcare packages.
“Also, there has been strategic regularization of staff appointments as well as upward review of travel allowance, among others.
“The company took these steps to ensure that welfare of employees is adequately addressed,” he added.
The managing director advised the company’s workers to be conscious of their safety while performing their duties, to avoid accidents that could undermine current progress made by the company. (NAN)
