FRSC commander urges marshals, motorists in Cross River to go for regular eye checks
Mrs Elizabeth Akinlade Sector Commander, Cross River State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has charged officers of the command and motorists in the State to always go for regular eye checks to maintain clear vision.
Akinlade stated this at a One-Day Capacity Building Training for marshals and other stakeholders organised by the command in Calabar the state capital
She said that, the training was part of efforts to ensure that officers and motorists in the State maintain clear vision always, adding that this was necessary for safe driving.
“This training is designed to enable officers have more knowledge about glaucoma from experts.
“They will also undergo eye checks to determine their glaucoma status and if anyone is found to have the disease, he or she will be given drugs.
“A fire service expert from the the State Fire Service is also here to educate the officers on fire safety.
This is because safety is all encompassing. Fire safety is also part of our responsibility, ” she said.
The sector commander added that the capacity training was part of the command’s efforts at building synergy with relevant agencies in the State for effective coordination.
“Recently, we partnered with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and State Road Transport Company to sensitize drivers on proper use of Roundabout in the State.
“Today we are partnering with Optamologists from the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) and the State Fire Service and very soon we will meet with the drivers’ union, ” she said.
