Ohaneze urges Enugu youth to shun violence, embrace peace
The Chairman of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, Mr Emma Ugwu has urged youths in South East to embrace peace and stay away from social vices.
He said this on Wednesday during his formal inauguration at the Local Government Secretariat in Enugu.
Ugwu said that Enugu south and indeed the entire south east region cannot achieve meaningful development without a peaceful environment.
“My message to the youths of Enugu south and by extension the south east, is to stay away from criminality and embrace peace.
“Youths should desist from taking laws into their hands and report any breach of peace in their domain to the appropriate authorities, ” he said.
The chairman further tasked citizens of the area to participate actively in the ongoing Permanent Voter Registration (PVC).
“We are mobilising the people of Enugu south to ensure that all eligible voters cast their votes in the 2023 general elections.
“Beyond Enugu south, I also call on all Igbos worldwide to get their PVCs and to ensure that they cast their votes during the elections, ” he said.
In his speech, the Enugu State President of Ohaneze, Prof. Fred Eze commended Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for supporting the organization in the state.
He noted that, Ohaneze was not a partisan organization but an organization set up to cater for interest of Igbos worldwide.
He called on Igbo political leaders at all levels to show support to Ohaneze to enable it carry out its mandate.
The Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Mr Chimezie Nkwuo commended Ohaneze for championing the cause of the Igbos across Nigeria.
He pledged total support of the council adminstration to the newly inaugurated Executive of Ohaneze in the local government.
The chairman thanked the state chapter of Ohaneze for conferring on him the position of patron of Ohaneze.
