Oruruo urges Gov. Mbah to attract private sector investment to sports in Enugu State
Mr Steve Oruruo, Special Adviser to former Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on information, has advised the present government to introduce a policy that will attract private sectors investment to sports in the state.
Oruruo made the call in Enugu after watching a team from his constituency, Akpugo FC, smashed 5-0 by Coal City United at the Rangers FC training pitch Liberty Estate, Enugu.
The former SA said it was only the state government agenda that will attract private sector involvement in sports development in Enugu state.
“If we want private sector to play a role in sports, the government must set a standard that will attract them because government alone cannot take care of all sports.
“Once sports is ranked top on the priority list of government, it is clear that private sectors will come in with the vision to assist in promoting sports.” he said.
Oruruo said that sports will be of benefit to the state government in the fight against crime and to have a functional society free of social vices.
“To achieve a functional society, the government will have to start developing children with sports and education because the later goes along with sports.
“A government that has the vision to accommodate the youths should not ignore sports and education because they take them away from crime,” he noted.
He noted that sports development in Enugu State should not be only football but other sports segments must be developed.
“When we talk about sports, we are not talking about football only because sports is comprehensive and it involves other sports associations.
“In other to promote sports, other associations like, Basketball, Volleyball, Boxing, Wrestling and others must function strong enough for sportd development to work, ” Oruruo said..
