NDE embarks on registration of unemployed persons in Enugu Stare
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has embarked on registration of all employed people in Enugu State.
The Enugu State Coordinator of the agency, Mrs Ifeoma Ezepue disclosed this in Enugu.
Ezepue said that the exercise was being organised across 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
She equally said that it was going on in all 774 local government areas in the country noting that the registration was for those with and without educational qualifications
The state coordinator said that the essence was to capture all unemployed people as it would help the country and NDE in particular in planning on programmes that would in corporate them in other to reduce the number of unemployed people in the country.
“The country cannot plan without data, data is very important in planning and NDE since 1987 has been in the business of reducing the number of unemployed people, making them employers of labour and self employed.
“I was appointed the state coordinator in May 2022 and am fortunate to serve under the current Director General of NDE, Mallam Nuhu Fikpo, whom I called employment generator.
Since he came on board we have never had a minute rest without activities and programmes” she said.
Ezepue explained that NDE had four key programmes which includes the vocation skill, small skill enterprises, Rural empowerment and the special public works.
She noted that activities had been going on in the four key programmes.
She said that they just concluded training of women on how to make shoes and bags so that even as house wives, they can earn some money.
The state coordinate hinted that when they train people, they give stipend to ensure they see means of coming to the training adding that most times depending on the number of the trainees they settle all of them or a percentage of them would be settled.
She, however, said on their challenges, they had issue of funding and issue of naria re-designed as it affected the programes seriously.
Ezepue called on the state government to assist the agency with hillux vehicle to enable them access the far away LGA in the state.
