The Police Command in Enugu State has confirmed the shooting to death of three police personnel by an armed assailant on a night patrol duty within Enugu metropolis on Sept. 7.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed this development in a statement in Enugu on Thursday.
Ndukwe said that the incident happened at about 10:15p.m. when the patrol team was on its normal routine night patrol of the metropolis.
“Intensive manhunt operation is ongoing to fish out the unknown assailants, who operating in a Lexus Jeep, suddenly opened fire on a moving police patrol van on duty, along Chime Avenue, New Haven, Enugu, on Sept 7.
“This development led to three police operatives sustaining severe gunshots wounds and later confirmed dead at the hospital,” he said.
The police spokesman, who said that further information would be given on the development, assured that the armed assailants would be tracked down.
