The Enugu State Government in collaboration with Center for Experiential Learning and Innovation (CELI), has organised a capacity training for smart green school teachers in the state on Nigerian Learning Passport (NLP).
The 3-Day training programme, which held from Monday Aug. 24 to Wednesday Aug. 26, in Enugu, was supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The programme designed to train CELI mentors and experiential learning innovators on scaling NLP in Enugu smart green schools, is facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Education, and Microsoft GPE.
Speaking, Mr Harold Kpolime, the UNICEF Coordinator for Nigerian Learning Passport, said NLP was an online platform.
“We are here to train smart green school teachers on Nigerian learning passport; we have courses in digital literacy, in digital learning, and also on how to use artificial intelligence, ” he said.
According him, we are training the trainers, who will in-turn cascade the training down to the teachers.
“This is 21st century and we expect that at the end of the training all our teachers should be digitally literate, ” Kpolime said.
Also speaking, Mr Believe Ekeh, Education Specialist, UNICEF, Enugu Field office, said UNICEF have always partnered with the Enugu State government in it’s education initiatives.
“What we are doing here is to support the state government through SUBEB to integrate NLP into its learning in the smart green schools.
“We have been supporting the state government’s initiatives in Education this is not the first time.
“If you don’t build the capacity of the personnel then the physical structures are just in vain hence UNICEF support to build the capacity of teachers, ” he said.
Dr Ego Ajah, Permanent Board Member, Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) said the training would improve the digital knowledge of the teachers.
Also, Mrs Nkem Agbo, Director in the state’s Ministry of Education, Enugu, thanked both the Enugu state government and it’s partners for the initiative.
Mr Levi Ojinweke, a trainee, expressed happiness for the training, saying that it is the way forward for the teachers in the smart green schools.
“This is the way to go; I thank our able governor and all the collaborators in this initiative, ” he said.
