Abuja, June 21, 2026 (NAN) Women in Business and Politics has joined the global community in celebrating Father’s Day, recognising fathers’ contributions to families, communities and national development.
The group said fatherhood goes beyond biology and encompasses care, guidance, protection, leadership and commitment to dependants’ well-being.
Summit Coordinator, Hassie Oyama, described fatherhood as responsibility, presence and consistency in supporting and guiding those under one’s care.
“Fatherhood is not merely a title. It is a lifelong commitment to nurturing, protecting and providing emotional, moral and practical support for children and families,” she said.
According to Oyama, the true measure of a father is reflected in his presence, sacrifices and the values he passes to future generations.
She said responsible fathers contribute significantly to family stability, social harmony and national development.
“Today, we celebrate fathers and father figures whose dedication strengthens homes and builds stronger communities.
“Their commitment to raising responsible children and supporting families deserves recognition and appreciation,” she said.
Oyama noted that fatherhood transcends circumstances and is demonstrated through commitment, mentorship, support and positive influence.
She said the organisation celebrated biological, adoptive, step, grand, great-grand, spiritual and religious fathers.
The group also honoured mentors and father figures who continue to impact lives positively within their communities.
Oyama said fathers from different economic and social backgrounds deserved recognition for their efforts and sacrifices.
“We acknowledge working fathers, unemployed fathers, part-time fathers and even those striving to reconnect with their families.
“What matters is the willingness to embrace responsibility and make meaningful contributions to family life,” she said.
She noted that fatherhood is expressed differently across cultures and communities, while stressing the need for active involvement in children’s lives.
According to her, fathers serve as providers, protectors, mentors and role models in homes, workplaces, religious institutions and society.
“Children thrive when fathers are present, engaged and supportive.
“Responsible fatherhood helps build confidence, discipline and strong values in the next generation,” she said.
The organisation also honoured deceased fathers whose legacies continue through the lives they influenced and the values they imparted.
Oyama urged fathers to strengthen family bonds, embrace responsibility and contribute positively to societal growth.
“As we celebrate today, we encourage fathers to continue leading with integrity, compassion and accountability.
“Strong families remain the foundation of a peaceful, prosperous and progressive society,” she said.
She wished fathers a peaceful, fulfilling and memorable Father’s Day celebration.
“On behalf of Women in Business and Politics, I congratulate fathers across the nation and pray for continued strength, wisdom and fulfilment in their responsibilities,” Oyama said. (NAN)
