Abuja, March 3, 2026 (NAN) The Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali M. Ali, has agreed to partner with the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) ahead of the 2026 All Africa Golf Challenge Trophy.
Ali made the commitment on Tuesday when he received Lami Ahmed, the President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), and her team at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
He described NAN as Africa’s largest news content provider, welcoming the delegation and commending them for promoting women’s golf nationwide.
“Established by Decree 19 of 1976 and operational since Oct. 2, 1978, NAN remains Nigeria’s primary news source for newspapers, broadcasters, and digital platforms.
“The agency operates over 400 reporters, 12 zonal offices and 36 state offices, with an extensive national network headquartered in the Federal Capital Territory.
“NAN maintains global partnerships with Reuters, Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, Xinhua News Agency, to mention a few,” he said
Ali said the collaborations guarantee international visibility for partners, assuring LGAN of worldwide reach for its activities and events.
“We are ready to project your stories nationally and globally. NAN will shape positive narratives and push the Nigerian brand forward,” Ali said.
He congratulated LGAN for winning the bid to host the All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) for the third time, describing it as historic.
Ali reaffirmed NAN’s commitment to gender inclusion, noting that key departments within the agency are headed by women.
“At NAN, we believe competence has no gender. Some of our most strategic desks are led by highly professional women,” he said.
Ali assured LGAN of robust coverage by the Sports Desk before, during, and after the championship.
“Our sports reporters will give you comprehensive coverage. We recognise sports as a vital tool for national development,” he added.
He disclosed that a joint committee would be constituted to fine-tune the partnership framework for mutual benefit.
Earlier, the LGAN President, Ahmed, said Nigeria would host the 2026 AACT from Nov. 2 to Nov. 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
She said the championship, Africa’s premier biennial women’s amateur team golf event, would attract over 30 African nations.
“This tournament is more than golf. It is a continental convergence, an economic platform, and a statement of women’s empowerment,” she said.
According to her, the event has been endorsed by the National Sports Commission (NSC) under the Federal Government’s sports economy framework.
She stressed the need for a strategic media partnership to ensure accurate messaging and reach across the continent.
“We want Nigeria positioned as capable, organised, and secure. With NAN as the official wire partner, that visibility is assured,” the LGAN President said.
She expressed confidence that the collaboration would deliver national impact and strengthen Nigeria’s image ahead of November 2026.
