Bonny Island (Rivers), Oct. 29, 2025 (NAN) Lady Lucy Eyo has emerged overall winner of the maiden edition of the Bonny Island Golf Club (BIGC) Breast Cancer Awareness Kitty, a Par 3 Challenge organised by the club’s Ladies Section.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 30 golfers, comprising men and ladies, participated in the one-day tournament, which featured various categories of competition.
In the ladies’ Division One category, Lady Lucy Eyo clinched the top position, while Lady Captain Darlene Cobham finished as runner-up.

In the ladies’ Division Two, Lady Modinat Raheem emerged winner, with Lady Lateefah Ibrahim coming second.
For the men’s Division One, Smart Tobin secured first place, while Dada Aiyedun emerged runner-up.

In the men’s Division Two, Cobham Asuquo took the top spot, followed by John Omole in second place.

Speaking after the event, Lady Captain of BIGC, Darlene Cobham, said the tournament was organised to create awareness on breast cancer and to encourage regular health checks among women.
“We, the Bonny Island Golf Club Ladies Section, decided to mark the breast cancer awareness month with a kitty, playing a Par 3 Challenge format,” she said.

“It was really important to me that we bring more awareness to breast cancer, seeing that it has become a serious concern in our society.
“It is no longer something we only hear about from afar. I have personally lost a close family friend and a sister-in-law to the disease, and I know the pain it brings,” Cobham added.
She commended all participants and congratulated the winners, saying the tournament also helped foster friendship and unity among golfers in the club.
“I want to appreciate everyone who participated and supported us, especially our club captain, Mr. Abubakar Hussaini, for taking the time to create a video message highlighting the need for continued awareness and support for women battling breast cancer,” she said.

The BIGC Vice Captain, Mr. Michael Ukaegbu, commended the Ladies Section for organising the event and applauded the participants for their enthusiasm.

“This maiden edition of the Breast Cancer Awareness Kitty has shown the commitment of our members to both sport and social responsibility,” he said.
“It is heartening to see golfers coming together for such a worthy cause. Beyond the competition, this tournament has created a platform to remind everyone, especially women, about the importance of early detection and regular medical checkups,” Ukaegbu added.
He congratulated the overall winner, Lady Lucy Eyo, and other participants for their sportsmanship and dedication.
“Lady Lucy’s victory is well deserved. She played with focus and grace. We are proud of her and of all who participated.
“The spirit of camaraderie displayed here is what golf and community service are all about,” he said.
In a brief remark, Lady Eyo expressed delight at her victory and appreciated the club’s leadership for their support.
“I am excited to have won this maiden edition. It was a great experience, and I thank the organisers and our club executives for their encouragement,” she said.
The tournament concluded with a dinner and presentation of awards to winners in the various categories.(NAN)
