Abuja, May 4, 2025 ( NAN) Defending Champions, Scorpions Spikers Volley Club of Mambilla Barracks retained their title in the Minister of FCT Volleyball Challenge 2025 after defeating Tora Volleyball Academy of Gwagwalada 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 25-22, 25-14) in the women’s event final on Sunday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match played at the indoor sport hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, saw Tora Volleyball Academy take an early lead as they won the first 26-24.
Scorpions Spikers Volleyball club however mounted a strong comeback after they bounced back to win the next three sets, as they imposed their dominance on their opponents.
In the second set, Scorpions Spikers overcame Tora’s efforts to win 25-18 and even the set score at 1-1.
They then took control of the third and fourth set winning it 25-22, 25-14 after establishing an early lead to secure their second consecutive championship title.
Speaking after the match, Abdulahi Muslimu, coach of Scorpions Spikers noted that the team as defending champions were well prepared thoroughly for the tournament.
“Our coaches, crew, and players were all well-prepared. Our target was to retain the cup, and we didn’t disappoint our patron and crew, just as we had promised, and I am delighted we achieved it.
“We had a strong team effort, and I am proud of our players and coaches. I am so happy and filled with joy in my heart like a newborn baby,” he said.
He added that the organisers did an excellent job, considering the current challenges in the country.
Muslimu highlighted Scorpions Spikers volleyball club impressive performance, noting they had six clean sheets and conceded only one set throughout the tournament.
“We are thrilled with our success, and it’s a testament to our hard work and dedication,” he said.
NAN reports that the most valuable player (MVP) Marta Anebi was from Scorpions Spikers volleyball club.
In other matches played at the tournament’s women event, Defense Spikers of Mogadishu Bareacks beat Legend Spikers of Kubwa 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 28-26, 25-18) to finish in third position.
NAN reports that a total of 53 teams participated in the Minister of FCT Volleyball Challenge 2025, which began on April 30 and ended on Sunday in Abuja.(NAN)
