Abuja, March 27, 2025 (NAN) Governments at Sub-national levels have been called to collaborate with the government at the center in the areas of sports development. This will not only help the sports to thrive but also provide employment for millions of talented youths.
Orangun of Oke-Ila in Osun State, His royal highness, Oba (Dr.) Adedokun Abolarin, Aroyinkeye 1, made the plead when he paid a visit to the NTA Sports Channel located at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Accompanied by his counterparts, His Royal Majesty, Oba AbdulRaheem Oladele Adeoti Akolade Agboluaje, Olomu of Omu-Aran in Kwara State and Barrister Oguntayo Lateju Babatunde, Oba Abolarin was in the Station to congratulate the General Manager of the Station, Kayode Adeniyi who hails from Ila Orangun, on his appointment to his new position by the NTA management.
The Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun said that with the million of talents living in the rural areas, there is a need to make Sports infrastructures available for them to train with.
“With serious investment in sports, we can totally dominate the World in Sports.
“We have talents everywhere in the rural, in all spheres of humanly labour, be it Taekwando, boxing, Table tennis, tennis, Golf, Sprint and all over, people are looking for job, whereas you have a natural areas that you should be looking into.
“We have good administrators, but the major problem is corruption”. He concluded
In his own submission, the Olomu of Omun-Aran, Oba Agboluaje called for a regional sports festival to bring out talents in that area.
“At sub regional level where we can assemble people and pass this knowledge to them, it means we have assisted in achieving a goal which is provided for you to achieve.
“By the grace of God, we will continue to move forward. It may be slow. We will get there.”
General Manager, NTA Sports, Kayode Adeniyi while appreciating the Special guests for their visit, appealed to them to play active role in developing sports at the grassroots which he described as the bedrock of Sports Development in Nigeria.
The Obas were later taken around the master control room and studio, where they commended NTA management led by Comrade Director General, Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, for the establishment of special television station to grow Sports in Nigeria.(NAN)
