Anambra Residents pours out their expectations as Nigeria turns 64 years on October 1,Newsmen Correspondent sample their opinions in Awka.
Igwe Chris Oranu, Traditional Ruler of Omor, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra, said that at 64 years Nigeria should see patriotism and productivity as a developmental key.
Oranu said that at 64 years of age Nigerian is grown enough to consolidate the efforts of the fore fathers by promoting actions that will sustain peaceful co-existence amongst all geo-political zones.
“Nigeria is still evolving, the political leadership of Nigeria at 64 is still at the infancy age.
“Critical key of development of a nation is yet to be fully enthrone in the political space of Nigeria which in turn will make the people to be patriotic and productive in all sectors of the economy,” he said.
He said that if basic principles of democratic governance are put in place and nurtured the citizens will be patriotic to the nation, then productivity will be seen and inefficiency eroded.
Oranu said that patriotism is the binding and driving force that will birth all round commitment that will erase inefficiency, insecurity, tribalism, nepotism and divisions that have scattered the nation.
He said that Nigeria in their diversity with patriotism can see their strength instead of calling or engaging in actions that leads anarchy.
“If the political leaders reviews the activities of the nation ranging from economic and political polices a visible growth and development will bee seen,” he said.
Chief Ugochukwu Emeh, State Chairman of Labour Party(LP) said that nation at 64 is yet to achieve political stability and needs the will power to put first actions to will cement all geo-political zones without preference.
Emeh said that public institutions tasked with public welfare are yet to stand tall in discharge of their legitimate functions to the Nigerian citizens.
“The nation at 64 years should been operating an electoral process worthy of emulation by some African countries and sustaining their claim of giant of African.
“Nation as a nation should boast of a judiciary that is blind and dispense justices in a faceless manner.
“We need drastic turn around in the legislatives arm of the government where quality legislation would be seen coming out from both chambers of legislature,”he said.
Emeh said that the common man hope in getting justice is the judiciary and it demand that facilities for effective and unbiased judiciary processes be instituted for the growth and development of Nigeria.
“The Western world are not witches nor wizard rather the place first the functions of their country above self, it can be replicated in Nigeria.
“The electoral system truly need to be independent ,it is a doable act, all what is needed is commitment principles towards the Nigerian nation and zeal to be placed in world map of descent behaviors,” he said.
Dr Chike Obidigbo, a former governorship aspirant in Anambra called on the public to eschew the principles of “I” in matters that concerns the nation’s growth and development rather should have the “We” attitude where everyone will be regarded.
Obidigbo said that all inclusive key is a great tool in unification of a nation as divers as Nigeria and preached that if the political class shuns individualist tendencies in affairs of the nation speedy development will be achieved.
“The message for us as a nation is to be united, to have an inclusive economic development, and I think that is where the economy of this country is heading to.
“The zones need to be respected by their known values, beliefs and culture and shoyld addressed as the peculiarities abounds.
