The Enugu State Government says it is partnering with some private developers Hyfield And Allied Associates LTD and Toshel Nigeria Ltd, to build 300 Housing Units in Trans Ekulu area of Enugu, the state capital.
The Secretary and Legal Adviser of Enugu State Housing Development Corporation (ESHDC), Mr Titus Ngene, disclosed this while speaking to Journalists on the activities of the corporation
He said this was part of the government’s determination to providing affordable housing for the residents of the state.
“We own several estates in Enugu through private sector partnership.
The one we are talking about now, “Conquest Estate” Trans Ekulu Phase 7, is designed to be the largest estate East of the Niger, ” Ngene said.
He added that the estate, measuring 165 Hectares, and 1860 Plots, would have a ‘state of the art infrastructures such as roads, electricity, solar power lights etc.
“ESHDC is a social services provider, our duty is to provide the needed social amenities such as schools, hospitals, electricity, water in the estate.
“Provision of public utilities in the estates is the responsibility of the government and we are going to do that, ” he said.
According to him, the government also subsidizes cost of land for developers and ensures that the houses were affordable for the residents.
Speaking, one of the estate developers, Okey Ayogu of Hyfield and Allied Associates Ltd said the partnership with the government was part of efforts to encourage and help the government to provide decent housing for residents of the state
“Conquest estate is conceived to repatriat business economy to the South East; that is our vision, ” he said.
He said that the estate, which is going to be the largest in the south east zone will be world standard with world class infrastructures.
Ayogu said the estate will be in three categories, low class, middle class and highbrow with all social amenities.
He called on prospective investors to take advantage of the estate to come and settle in the state.
Also speaking, Tochukwu Nzekwe of Toshel Nigeria Ltd, a developing partner said that the prices of the houses in the estate could not be determined now due to exigences of time.
He, however, assured that it will be affordable to the public depending on what the individual wants.
