Enugu State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Lloyd Ekweremadu has said that discovering and harnessing of talents of Enugu State youths remained the priority of the ministry.
Ekweremadu stated this during an interview with the Newsmen in Enugu on Thursday saying that the verious sports association in the state has big role to play in sports development.
The commissioner called on other sports associations in the state to emulate boxing association in the state in attracting competitions and training for officials.
Speaking on the forthcoming South East Boxing championship in the state, he said the competition came at a festive time which makes it more interesting
The two day boxing championship will kick off on Friday at the Indoor Sports Hall of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
He said, it has been along year so we are hoping to get good number of people who will be display thier talents especially those from Enugu.
“Generally speaking, we are happy that Enugu is on the mark of hosting such competition because this is some of the goals and inspirations that the governor has got the state to be a hub for sports events.
“We are trying to promote sports tourism in Enugu and this is part of it; so, we are privileged for the opportunity especially in sports of boxing.
“Enugu is happy that the boxing championship will help to discover new talents and serve as an opportunity for our young athletes to show what they can do.
“We hope the competition will set them to actualise their sporting career or endeavour by representing the state and South East at the national and then international,”Ekweremadu said.
Ekweremadu said that this kind of competition will expose the boxers to the larger world as there will be scout agents or their representatives from Europe and other parts of the world.
He assured different sports associstions in the state that the government will accommodate any that want to give the youths to to excel in thier different sports.
