The Chairman of Uzo Uwani Local Government Council, Hon. Celestine Chidozie.has completed a Divisional Police Station with Staff Quarters at Adani.
The chairman, while conducting a team of the Enugu State Good Governance Initiative (ENS-GGI) round the project said, the construction of the police station became a priority to his administration after the former police station at Adani was razed by hoodlums.
He said that Adani, was one of the economic hub of Uzo Uwani LGA and a gateway to Anambra State, “therefore, the security of this area cannot be taken for granted.”
He said’ “As you are aware, Adani boasts of the largest rice farms in Enugu State and probably, the South East.
“It is also a gateway to Absmbra State and Kogi State in the North with it’s vast forest, the security of the area cannot be taken for granted.
“Sometime ago unknown persons burnt down the divisional police station here and I considered it a priority to build a new division, in spite of the lean resources.'”
The chairman assured that the multi-million naira project will be commissioned by December 2023.
“All things being equal, we hope to commission this project by next month or latest January 2024 because work has reached over 90 per cent completion, ” he said.
The council chairman also built a military base at Opanda Nimbo where kidnapping and banditry held sway as well as a 2.7 kilometer road leading to Adani town.
He also reconstructed the Asaba-Iga bridge destroyed by heavy duty trucks looking for alternative routes to Onitsha, Anambra State.
The council administration also installed 25 electric polls along the Adani-Ogurugu road as part of it’s rural electrification project and a 2.3km Adani-Umueje road with earth work completed..
The council chairman also said the council has rehabilitated over five link roads in the council headquarter at Umulokpa, and installed a 300kva transformer in the same Umulokpa, Nkpologu and Ajoma communities.
Speaking after the project inspection, Comrade Sam Udekwe, Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Enugu State Council and Mr Onyebuchi Igboke, leader of the Civil Society Coalition Enugu State, commended the chairman for his foresight and for initiating projects that have direct impact on the people.
