
The Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Council, Mr Livinus Nzeh Anike says he has cleared four years arrears of leave allowances inherited from past administrations of the council.
Nzeh made this known when he received the Enugu State Good Governance (ESGGI) team in his office at the council headquarters, Nkwo Nike, Enugu State.
The team comprising representatives of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and Civil Society Coalition (CSOs) was in the council in continuation of its biennial inspection of projects initiated by local government administration in the state.
The team was conducted round many of the projects embarked upon by the chairman within his two years in office by the Special Adviser on projects and rural development, Mr Okey Igbokwe.
The projects include a 3.4 kilometers Edem ring road duly asphalted with solar street lights and double drainages, a solar powered borehole duly completed and currently in use.
Others are, a mini stadium at Nkwo Nike which construction work has reached over 70 per cent completion, an ongoing 600 meters road at Ugboghe Abakpa Nike, another 700 meters road with culvert and a one kilomet link road at Edem Nike with only asphalting remaining.
The chairman of the council also installed a 350kva transformer at the council Secretariat which powers the entire premises as well as nearby houses and businesses while also constructing a 1000 capacity multi-purpose hall at the council headquarters to host all social events by the council.
Speaking on his achievements, the chairman said he was determined to complete all the ongoing projects started by his administration before exiting office.
According to him: “I inherited arrears of four years workers leave allowances, I have cleared all and I have told members of staff that nobody will be owed one naira under my administration.
“I have purchased some motorcycles (10) for security patrol within the local government area and other security gadgets for the neighborhood watch personnel to ensure peace and security of the area.
“I have vowed that by God’s grace the mini stadium and roads will be completed in good time and be put to use for the benefit of the people.”
Reacting a team leader of GGI and state chairman of NLC, Mr Fabian Nwigbo commended the council chairman for his people oriented projects saying it was a clear evidence of love for his people.
in the same vein, Mr Sam Udekwe,a co-leader of the team and chairman of NUJ, Enugu Stare Council described the projects embarked by the council as critical to needs of the grassroots, while another co-leader and the leader of CSOs Mr Onyebuchi Igboke lauded the determination of the chairman to utilize the resources of the council for the benefit of the grassroots.
