Foundation collaborates with Enugu State Govornment. to train youths, women on skill acquisition
The Potter’s Wheel Foundation (TPWF), based in Enugu State has pledged to partner the Enugu State Government to train youths and women on different entrepreneurial skills to reduce unemployment in the state.
The President of the Foundation, Mr Godson Onuzulike, made this known during the graduation ceremony of 70 trained youths and women on various entrepreneurial skills by the foundation in Enugu.
Onuzulike said the partnership became necessary as a way of empowering Enugu residents and creating jobs through combined efforts.
“I want to use this opportunity to assure Enugu State Government that TPWF will be partnering with them to make sure that Gov. Peter Mbah’s vision of creating jobs for youths comes to fulfilment.
“One of Mbah’s core area in his manifesto is the youths and we are ready to partner with him to actualise this dream,” he said.
He said that the beneficiaries were trained on six different categories – products under confectionaries, skin care, hygiene, allied, catering and natural beverages.
This is the graduation for batch K, having started with batch A in 2020, while over 5000 youths and women have been trained on vocational and entrepreneurship skills free of charge.
He explained that the programme was aimed at reducing unemployment, crime, poverty and insecurity in the state and the country at large.
Describing unemployment and poverty as the cause of the challenges facing the youths in the country, Onuzulike said, “We believe that this is one of the tools to tackle the challenges that have bedeviled us.”
Onuzulike urged the youth to grab the opportunity and engage themselves in skill acquisition for their future.
Taking the student on a topic “Entrepreneurship” the Chief Entrepreneurship Development, National Directorate of Employment, Mr Ignatius Jideofor, urged the trainees to be patient, focused and develop entrepreneurial spirit to grow their businesses.
He advised them to form cooperatives of at least 10 persons, to be able to access loan from NDE and ensure they meet the needs of the society as well as possess positive attitude to be able to succeed.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Youths and Sports, Enugu State, Mr Chris Mbah, assured the participants that they would support most of them with start up kits.
One of the significant of the event was when Mr Christian Olehi, the Director, Friday Olehi Foundation, donated N20, 000 to visually impaired trainee, Nneka Udeme and promised to support another.
Udeme thanked her donor and said, “I am visually impaired person but I have learnt a lot from this training to better my life.”
The participants were also given certificates of graduation.
