FA/Aiteo Cup: Star Plus coach targets final
Star Plus Coach, Anistar Izuikem, says his team’s target for the ongoing Federation and Aiteo Cup in Enugu is to qualify for the final, to enable them to represent the state.
Izuikem said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Enugu.
“My target is to reach the final a second time and represent the state at the national level once again.
“I need to showcase the boys at a bigger stage, give them more exposure to the bigger clubs and other scouts,” he said.
According to the coach, the team will take the matches one at a time, describing their next opponent, Ingas FC, as a strong and consistent team in the Nationwide League One.
“Ingas FC is a very strong and consistent team in the NLO, but we have a good record against them in the previous FA Cup games.
“So, we are fired up to do it again,” Izuikem said.
NAN reports that Star Plus FC defeated other state league clubs at the first stage of the competition, and will confront Ingas FC on March 1.
Before the next encounter with Ingas, the club had defeated the Golden FC 3-1 before recording another 3-1 victory over Young Lions FC.
The team also recorded a 2-1 win against Disdevt in Afrik, ahead of the match scheduled for March 1.
According to the fixture, the winner between Star Plus and Ingas FC will face Giant Brillars FC on March 2, 2023.
The final match of the competition will hold between either Giant Brillars, Ingas FC or Star Plus on March 8.
