CNS inaugurates living quarters for navy chief in Rivers

Port Harcourt – The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Awwal Gambo on Saturday inaugurated a four-bedroom ultra modern accommodation building for the commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder Port Harcourt.
Gambo inaugurated the building at the NNS Pathfinder base in Rumuolumeni community in the city.
Speaking, Commander of NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Abdullahi Ahmed, said that construction of the building commenced on Aug. 4 and completed on Nov. 4.
According to him, the building was initiated by our desire to reduce the potential risk and exposure faced by commanders in their daily movement to the naval base.
“We decided to embark on this project after the CNS advised newly appointed commanders to think out-of-the-box in order to breach all the gaps in our operational needs.
“The CNS further directed us to come up with projects and ideas that will reflect his mission and vision.
“Going by the CNS directive, we conceptualise the relocation of NNS Pathfinder Commanders’ accommodation from Government Reserve Area Phase 2 to the NNS Pathfinder Base.
Ahmed said that shortly after conceiving the idea work on the living quarters commenced on August 4.
“We felt that once the commander resides in the base that he will be able to operate on the front.
“This also eliminates all the risk associated with the commander coming to the base from his GRA residence daily. In most cases, the commander’s movement is always predicted.
“So, with the new accommodation, the commander will now be in a better position to see what his men are doing; pay surprise visits to locations without notice and meet all security challenges,” Ahmed added. (NAN)
