The Chairman of Cross River Anti Tax Agency, Dr Emmah Isong says the agency will report those who violates the State’s Anti Taxation Law including Government Officials to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He said this on Thursday while addressing Journalists on the activities of the agency in Calabar.
Isong said the agency was disturbed by series of reports and observations of the continuous illegal operations of some person’s including Government Officials and Agencies in violation of the Anti taxation laws.
“Our attention has been drawn to the illegal operations of certain recalcitrant Tax Consultants purportedly representing Local Goverment Councils or MDAs of Government.
“It has become Mandatory for the Cross River State Anti-Tax Agency in collaboration with Enforcement Services to issue a warning and alert unsuspecting public that the popular Tax – Exemption Policy of Gov Ben Ayade is still in force and remains unabated, ” he said.
He said that officials of the agency were above board in the implementation of the Anti Tax Law, adding that it was the best and most people friendly law by the Ayade led administration.
“We cannot be intimidated, harrassed and abated, and anybody who tries us by way of bribery will face the EFCC.
“I am ready to report anybody who violates this law to the EFCC, no matter how highly placed, ” Isong said.
According to him, the agency was collaborating with the State’s Internal Revenue Service to ascertain who are the low income earners and those who merit to pay tax.
Isong, who is also the General Overseer of the Christian Central Chapel Calabar said the activities of the agency had helped in reducing multiple and illegal taxation in the state, especially at the Local Government Councils level.
He urged members of the public to report any agent of government, especially agents of Local Government Councils who comes to extort money from them in the name of levy.
