Suspected pipeline vandals on Friday struck at Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos, causing anxiety and panic in the area.
However, emergency responders rushed to the scene where the leaking pipeline spewed petrol or premium motor spirit to avert possible disasters.
The Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, blamed the situation on vandals.
He said that at Omoboriowo Street, Pipeline Bus Stop on Igando-Ikotun Road, a large volume of PMS gushed out of the NNPC pipeline.
Oke-Osanyintolu said investigation revealed that the heavy flow was caused by bunkering in the early hours of Friday.
The DG said there was no loss of life and property, adding that sensitisation, public education and awareness are ongoing in the community.
“This is to avoid any form of open flame and burning in order to avoid any form of explosion or any other secondary incident.
“Responders at the scene are LASEMA, LRU Fire, Lagos State Fire Service, NSCDC, NNPC, LASTMA and LNSC,” Oke-Osanyintolu noted.
Three fire trucks were on ground at the time of this report. ##
